U21s suffer friendly defeat

4th March

Swansea City Under-21s were beaten 3-1 by Yeovil Town in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Fairwood on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite Sam Evans equalising for the Swans after Kieffer Moore had given the visitors an initial lead, two second-half strikes were enough to earn Yeovil the victory against a young Swansea development side.

In an even opening 20 minutes, both sides came close to opening the scoring as Henry Jones saw his 25-yard free-kick go narrowly wide before Adam Morgan missed from the penalty spot after he was brought down inside the area by Alex Gogic.

But it was the visitors who drew first blood when Moore finished off a fine counter-attacking move by Yeovil, firing into the right-hand top corner to make it 1-0 to the visitors in the 22nd minute.

The Swans responded well to the setback, going close through Loveridge before Evans levelled for the hosts, hitting home from close range after Kris Scott's low ball across the six-yard box.

And on the brink of the midway point, the young Swans nearly took the lead as Loveridge raced through on goal, only to be denied by the quick reactions of Yeovil goalkeeper Chris Dunn.

However, right on the hour mark, Yeovil managed to restore their advantage when Morgan made amends for his early penalty miss, volleying home spectacularly from a deep cross into the box.

With just under ten minutes left on the clock, the visitors rounded off their victory as the Yeovil number '18' curled an effort beyond the reach of Oliver Davies to make it 1-3.
