Vital statistics: Derby

3rd December
First team

Swansea City were beaten 2-1 at Derby County on Saturday despite battling right to the end at Pride Park.

We check out the key numbers following the Rams reverse.

3 – The Swans have lost three straight games for the first time under Graham Potter.

21 – The Swans have now conceded 21 goals in their 20 Championship games this season. Only Middlesbrough (13) and Leeds (17) have been breached on fewer occasions in the second tier.

8 – Away from home, the Swans have conceded just eight goals in 10 games. Only Boro (seven) can better that in the division.

22 – While the Swans’ defensive record is impressive, their tally of 22 goals scored in the Championship this season does not look so good when compared to the rest. Just four sides have scored fewer second-tier goals, and they are all in the bottom six.

3 – The Swans’ goal at Derby came when Fikayo Tomori put through his own net. The Rams defender became the third player to score an own goal when facing Potter’s team this season. Only leading scorer Oli McBurnie (eight) has netted more for the Swans in 2018-19, with Bersant Celina, Jay Fulton and Connor Roberts next in the scoring charts with two goals apiece.

1 – Tomori diverted Matt Grimes’s corner into his own net. It was the first set-piece goal – aside from a penalty – the Swans have scored all season.

10 – The Swans finished the Derby game with 10 men after Daniel James limped off late on with a hamstring problem. By that stage, Potter had used all his substitutes.

43 – The Swans have been possession kings in the Championship this term, yet they had only 43 per cent of the ball at Derby.

3 – Three players have featured in all 20 of the Swans’ league games so far this season. They are Roberts, Mike van der Hoorn and McBurnie.

8 – Potter’s men are now eight points adrift of the play-off places – and eight points clear of the bottom three – having lost four of their last five games.
