Vitor Matos praises Swansea City's work-rate after latest home win
Vitor Matos saluted the work-rate and togetherness of his Swansea City side after they recorded a ninth win in 15 Championship games courtesy of a 1-0 win over Bristol City at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Zan Vipotnik was the matchwinner as the Slovenian netted his 18th goal of the campaign, converting on the volley after a Gustavo Nunes cross had been nodded down to him by Jisung Eom.
In a game of few clear-cut chances on a sodden afternoon in SA1, the Swans had to dig in during stages of the second half – with Jay Fulton and Cameron Burgess among those making eye-catching contributions – and showed no shortage of commitment and spirit to ensure they took the spoils.
It is now 22 points from the last 24 on home turf, and tees up another important game under the lights against Preston North End on Tuesday night.
“It was a tough game, Bristol City are a strong side and they came with a really aggressive approach,” he said.
“They marked man to man and that can sometimes make the game difficult to control, we had moments where when we were able to get through them into their half it became a different game.
“We did struggle with that a bit during the first half, but we were really good when it came to winning the second balls, the duels, and that gave us some momentum.
“We had some good moments with quick combinations that helped us to break the line, and we found the goal.
“We had other chances, and so did they. It a very close match, and it was tense and exciting. It’s a big win, and now we have to recover to be ready to play again on Tuesday.
“We have talked about needing to find ways to win games, and to do that we need the starting point of putting everything on the pitch.
“That’s a really good start, it does not mean you will always win the game, but it means you are ready to compete, that’s important in the Championship.
“We concentrated as a team, we were well-organised, and that gave us the means of controlling the game.”
