Vitor Matos rues set-piece goals in Derby defeat
Vitor Matos acknowledged Swansea City had paid the price for poor set-piece defending after two goals from corners condemned them to defeat at Derby County.
The first half ended goalless, but with the visitors in control having dominated possession and territory, with Jisung Eom and Liam Cullen going closest to a breakthrough.
But the hosts opened the scoring just a couple of minutes after the restart when Rhain Brewster fired home a rebound after Lawrence Vigouroux had done well to save an initial header.
They then doubled their advantage from another outswinging delivery as Patrick Agyemang rose at the far post to power home a header.
“There is frustration because, especially in the first half, we were very good,” said the Swans head coach.
“We talked about showing that aggression and control, and I felt we did that really well.
“Then the second half starts and we immediately concede a goal from a corner situation, and when that happens it’s about how you react.
“We reacted okay after the first goal, we worked to try and have that aggression and control, but then after the second goal we lost a little bit of clarity and we got a bit emotional with the state of the game.
“For sure there are things we can take from the performance but we need to concentrate on and analyse the two goals coming from set-pieces and focus on what we can do to improve that and to avoid putting ourselves in those situations.”
