Head coach Vitor Matos believes Swansea City once again showed they are heading in the right direction, despite the frustration of not claiming all three points against Birmingham City.

The Swans opened the scoring against the Blues through Zan Vipotnik’s 13th goal of the season, with the Slovenian firing home after superb work by Goncalo Franco, who took possession by beating a defender to a Cameron Burgess pass before delivering a pinpoint cross.

The hosts had the chances to put the game to bed, with Franco, Ronald and Liam Cullen hitting the woodwork, while Jising Eom and Ben Cabango also had good chances.

The Swans were made to pay when Patrick Roberts showed good footwork before smashing a rising strike into the top corner with 18 minutes to go.

But there was no doubting the positives to take from Swansea’s performance, as they extended their unbeaten home run to five league games.

“There is frustration, but I really liked a lot of the performance,” he said.

“The first half was one of the best first halves we have had. We were dominant with the ball and with our pressing, we had the right timings and movements to create chances against a good opponent.

“The second half was much more even, we needed to control the game. We were still able to create chances, we were unlucky because we were playing with 10 men when we conceded the goal and we have hit the crossbar three times.

“That is football and we need to move on, to keep developing.

“We had the opportunity to win it and we need to keep pushing ourselves. We need to keep the focus on getting to the level we want to be.

“We need to recover and make sure we get ourselves ready to play Blackburn and to be with our fans and have another positive performance.”
