Vitor Matos | We turned it around thanks to resilience and our fans
Vitor Matos felt a combination of his side’s resilience and the support of the Jack Army had been key in helping his side turnaround their all-Welsh clash with Wrexham and claim a 2-1 win at a joyous Swansea.com Stadium.
The Swans had trailed at the break to a Cameron Burgess own goal, with the hosts having had 12 shots to none from the visitors.
The levelled when Zan Vipotnik’s deflected shot wrongfooted Arthur Okonkwo with about 20 minutes to go.
And when the Wrexham keeper miscued an attempted punch and then failed to gather a Ben Cabango header in stoppage time, Adam Idah was on hand to poke the ball over the line for the winner as the Swans made it three wins in their last three home games.
The goal was wildly celebrated by players, staff and fans alike, and head coach Matos praised how his team had responded to falling behind, and how a sold-out home support had roared them on.
“It was an emotional game for all of us, I felt we started a bit anxious and nervous,” said the Swans boss.
“They pressed us really well but with time we started to improve, we suffered the goal but I think the reaction was unbelievable and that is something we can take from this game.
“That way we reacted, the way we started taking steps and getting up the pitch with good counter-pressing and the right movements. Minute by minute we improved.
“Then there were two goals that are typical derby goals, but were right there where we need to be and when you are you sometimes get the reward. We kept pushing.
“The feeling we all had on the pitch was just amazing, these are the moments. We can say the turnaround on the pitch started in the stands.”
