Vitor Matos | We understand where we want to get to, and the values that can help us
Vitor Matos believes Swansea City are a team with a clear understanding of where they are striving to get to on the field as he prepares his side to face Bristol City this afternoon (12.30pm).
The Robins were the opponents back in late November when Matos first watched the Swans squad in action as he prepared to take the reins.
That afternoon ended in a chastening 3-0 defeat, but the Swans have made considerable strides since that dank, cold afternoon in BS3.
Their home form, in particular, has been very good with six wins and a draw from the last seven league games at the Swansea.com Stadium.
And Matos insists the credit for that lies with the players, and their commitment to the identity and values of the club.
"I know in football we always talk about what the manager or the coach has done, but more than that is how the players have bought into the ideas, how they believe in them and how they want to make improvements to it, as well," he said.
"It's about understanding what works and, if you want to say, your flaws and then working on them to develop good things and keep pushing as a team and an inidivual. I think that's what we've been doing.
"We are really happy with how we are building our identity, building a culture, but knowing there is still a lot to come and a lot to work on.
"We have tried to have this attitude from the beginning, to try and go back to a way of playing that is in the core values of the club, and we need to have that as a basis to build clearly towards the future.
"It's then also about consistency, and doing that against different types of opponents, different kinds of teams and challenges.
"That is not always perfect, but the commitment is there, the commitment to the principles and values are there.
"Then it's about making those things even stronger over time, and finding the way to use those principles and values to win games.
"We really believe in our identity and this will give us the best chance of winning games."
