Vitor Matos admitted Swansea City had been beaten by the better side on the day following their 3-0 defeat to Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The promotion-chasing Tractor Boys opened the scoring inside four minutes through Anis Mehmeti and doubled their lead shortly before the interval through Ivan Azon.

Swansea had a better spell during the early stages of the second half but were unable to create clear-cut opportunities, and George Hirst put the result beyond doubt when he turned in a third for the hosts.

It was a ninth defeat in 11 away games for the Swans, and Matos gave an honest assessment of the display in Suffolk.

“Ipswich were the better team,” he said.

“They were much more aggressive, they started the game a lot better. They scored early and that completely changed the context of the game.

“That meant we needed to try and chase the game, which is not easy. In the second half we showed some resilience and had more aggression and played with more intensity.

“But when it went to 3-0 it was very hard, and we have to make sure we take the opportunity to learn from this game.

“We really need to push ourselves to get better and improve. We have always been able to find ways to improve and we need to be much more competitive against these teams.

“No-one is happy, we all feel it, especially the players. Their mentality has been outstanding, the effort they are putting in is outstanding.

“But we also know we need to keep improving because these are the teams we want to be competing against.”
