Vorm relishing his derby debut

30th October

Michel Vorm is preparing for the first derby experience of his career this Sunday, insisting: "These are the games you play football for."

The Swans and Cardiff City go head-to-head in the Barclays Premier League for the first time in a derby being screened around the world.

For some in the Swans squad, it won't be a new experience. Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams, Neil Taylor, Leon Britton and Nathan Dyer have all played for the Swans in a derby, while current Swan Wayne Routledge featured for Cardiff while on loan with the club.

But for Vorm and Swansea's more recent signings, it will be venturing onto new ground.

And the Dutch international is relishing the occasion as Wales' top clubs do battle in arguably the biggest league in world football.

"I've never played in a derby game before," said the 30-year-old. "In Holland I played for Utrecht against Ajax - Amsterdam is about 25-30 minutes away from Utrecht, but it's not really like a derby game like Swansea versus Cardiff. This is big.

"I'm really looking forward to this game. These are the games you play football for - to win for the fans and the city.

"I don't know what to expect but I imagine it will be a terrific atmosphere and both sets of fans will be raising the bar in terms of support.

"These are the special games in your career. There are a few in the world and now, thanks to it being in the Premier League, this will be talked about not in Wales, England, Britain or Europe, but the world.

"It's not for the title or anything like that - it's one game of 38 - but it's not a normal game.

"And for two Welsh clubs to be playing in the Premier League I think it's something for the country to be proud of."
