'We are ready for Southampton'

Leroy Fer believes the Swans showed they are ready for their Premier League opener at Southampton after ending pre-season on a high on Saturday.

Paul Clement’s side finished off their 2017-18 preparations with a thumping 4-0 victory over Serie A side Sampdoria at the Liberty Stadium.

The win backed up a positive training camp in the US and a 2-0 victory over Birmingham City back on British soil last weekend.

“Four-nil on the last game of pre-season was a great way to finish,” said Fer. “The gaffer told us before the game to  finish in a positive way so that we are ready for Southampton.”

Fer opened the scoring before half-time, before a comical Ricardo Alvarez goal was followed by strikes from Federico Fernandez and Tammy Abraham.

“We played a good game,” added Fer. “In the first half, we were searching a little bit, but as soon as it became 2-0, we started to play really well and created a lot of chances.

“We finished off strong, and I think we are ready for next week now. We have another hard week of training before Southampton, so we will be ready.”
