Yan Dhanda | I have to seize my opportunities

Yan Dhanda is determined to seize every opportunity he gets to impress new Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper.

The attacking midfielder, who arrived from Liverpool on a free transfer in May 2018, is hoping for regular chances with the first team this campaign, having made just six appearances in all competitions last term.

That was despite a flying start to life in South Wales that saw him score the winner just 29 seconds into his senior debut against Sheffield United on the opening weekend of the Championship season.

Dhanda looked lively last Saturday as the Swans continued their preparations for the 2019-20 campaign with a 3-2 victory over Crawley Town at the People’s Pension Stadium; notably hitting the post with a well-struck effort from 20 yards.

The 20-year-old will be aiming to build on his momentum, starting on Tuesday as Cooper’s men travel to Yeovil – against whom he scored in a 2-1 victory at Huish Park in last year’s meeting between the sides.

He then hopes to make a significant impact in the following three remaining pre-season friendlies before the big kick-off against Hull City at the Liberty on August 3rd.

“Hopefully, I’ve started off well and the gaffer has been impressed by what he’s seen,” he said.

“He’s going to give everyone an opportunity so it’s down to us to take it.

“Like last year, I need to impress the gaffer in the games we have during pre-season and then it’s down to what he thinks is best for the team.

“I’ll respect his decision regardless of who he chooses to play but, for me, it’s about believing in myself and showing him what I can do over these next three weeks.”
