Swansea City Women’s head coach Yzzy Taylor was pleased with her side’s performance and their ability to show a different side of their game following a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue.

The Swans have enjoyed two dominant victories in their previous fixtures, defeating Pontypridd United 10–1 and Briton Ferry Llansawel 6–1, before taking on a physical and well-organised Aberystwyth side.

Swansea took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to an own goal from Lalita Egan, but she made amends by netting the equaliser for the Seasiders just before the hour mark.

Midfielder Chloe Chivers then restored Swansea’s lead with a superb long-range strike that caught goalkeeper Sophie Steele off guard, giving the visitors a reward for the attacking threat they showed throughout the match.

The victory made it four consecutive wins for Taylor’s side since defeats to Cardiff City and Wrexham, with the Swans boss praising her squad for coming together and showing a shift in mentality when responding to setbacks.

“We knew it was going to be a tough place to come, and that it would be a physical game. We really had to show some fight if we were going to walk away with three points," she said.

“I think in terms of our performance it was strong. There was one little lapse of concentration with the goal we conceded, but overall it was really positive.

“We really tried to do the right things throughout the build-up and ensure we made the right decisions in the final third to increase our chances of success and scoring goals, and thankfully Chloe [Chivers] was able to create two moments to help us be successful.

“We learnt a tough lesson against Cardiff and Wrexham about our response when we do go behind.

“It’s vital for us to ensure that we stay in the game when these moments happen because unlike in recent weeks we didn’t have a two or three-goal buffer, but we responded really well once they equalised and I couldn’t have asked for any more from the players.

“We are in a really good place with four wins on the bounce, I think those two losses against the top two really gave us the fire in our bellies to ensure we are progressing moving forward.”

The Swans are in cup action against Cardiff Met next week, before a mouthwatering south Wales derby at the Swansea.com Stadium. Taylor believes her side can approach the games full of confidence, but she insists they must continue setting high standards and working hard during the week to maintain their momentum.

“We have Cardiff Met in the cup next week which will be a good challenge and an opportunity for us to win some silverware and then we will look forward to playing back in the Swansea.com Stadium against Cardiff in a fortnight," she added.

“We will take it week by week and game by game. We have some real momentum at the moment, but we need to keep working as hard as possible in training to keep progressing and improving as a team.”
