Swansea City Women’s head coach Yzzy Taylor was delighted with her side’s response to going a goal down after they fought back to claim a comprehensive 5-1 victory at Pontypridd United Women.

The hosts took the lead through Maddison Lloyd, but a brace from Maisie Miller, along with strikes from Stacey John, Chloe Chivers, and Taite Trivett, saw the Swans secure their first league win in three matches.

The Swans have also been in fine form in front of goal, scoring 28 times in just seven league matches.

Taylor felt the result and performance were a superb response to last week’s defeat at Wrexham, and said she was proud of how her team stuck together after going a goal down early.

“We deserved the result,” said the Swans boss.

“We were able to show moments of quality when we needed it. After going behind early on the reaction was superb from the whole squad.

“Something that we constantly talk about as a group is being together and demonstrating resilience. We were able to do that today and all the goals were worked really well and very deserved.

“We spoke about what response we would need in the second half and to manage the game. We spoke about the first 15 mins after half-time being important and ensuring we were on the front foot. The girls came out with a fire in their bellies and they were able to kill the game off for us.

“The squad always work immensely hard and the distribution of goals today was very pleasing. We could have maybe had a couple more with Chloe Chivers and Stacey [John] both hitting the crossbar.”

Miller’s brace marked her first goals of the season, and she also registered an assist. Taylor was pleased to see the youngster’s hard work rewarded, and also highlighted her quality in attacking areas.

“Maisie was brilliant today - I enjoyed watching her,” said Taylor.

She was direct and produced some real moments of quality. I’m so happy for her - she’s someone who works hard and really deserved her two goals.”
