Swansea City Women’s manager Yzzy Taylor was delighted with the standards her side set and maintained as they cruised to a 7-1 victory over Barry Town United Women at the Swansea.com Stadium.

A hat-trick from Chloe Chivers, a brace from Emily Thomas, and further goals from Taite Trivett and Stacey John secured all three points in a dominant display as the Swans rounded off their phase one home fixtures in style.

Supporters in attendance were treated to a superb range of goals on a memorable day at the home of the Swans.

The hosts had secured their place in the top four with victory over The New Saints in their previous fixture, and the focus now turns to chasing down the top two over the remainder of the campaign. Taylor’s side sit four points behind second-placed Wrexham and five adrift of league leaders Cardiff City.

Taylor was particularly pleased with the tempo her side set from the outset, highlighted by three goals inside the opening 22 minutes, and praised the team’s ruthless approach as they continued to press and attack, even with a comfortable lead.

“It was a really great day. We put in a strong performance and scored a great variety of goals, so for our final home game of phase one we couldn’t be happier,” she said.

“We spoke beforehand about intensity and our mindset going into the game. We knew the threat Barry could bring, but the tempo we showed in the first 20 minutes really set the tone for how we wanted to play, and from that point on we made sure we delivered it.

“We also talked about pushing on in the second half. Being 3-0 up was positive, but we knew Barry would want to respond, so it was important we stayed on it, continued to press and caused them problems on the ball. The way we approached the second half was really pleasing.

“There were some excellent goals across the team today and it shows we don’t just rely on a strong front line. We have players contributing from all over the pitch, and having four different scorers is great evidence of that.

“We’ll enjoy tonight and then turn our focus to Briton Ferry next week to finish phase one. We know they can cause us problems, so we’ll recover first and then get back on the training pitch on Tuesday ahead of that game.”

Taylor also highlighted Chivers’ hat-trick performance, saying it was fully deserved for a player who gives everything whenever she is on the pitch.

“Chivers scored some fantastic goals and fully deserved her hat-trick. She works extremely hard and has been really consistent for us this season, so it was great to see her get that moment,” added Taylor.
