Yzzy Taylor | We did not deal with the early setbacks

Swansea City Women head coach Yzzy Taylor admitted her side had paid the price for not handling early setbacks as well as they could have after they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Cardiff City.

The Swans had not conceded in their first two league games, but they fell behind inside three minutes at Cardiff City Stadium when Mackenzie Olden opened the scoring.

The visitors were unable to weather the early storm, and conceded twice more before 33 minutes had elapsed.

They were much improved in the second half, but had left themselves with far too much to do.

Taylor was pleased with her side’s second-half fight but says their reaction to conceding early needs to be an important learning curve.

“It was a tale of two halves I think, Conceding so early took us back a bit and we really had to dig in to get to half-time," she said.

“We were able to take some information on in terms of out of possession and how it was important to be resilient moving forward, but I think we looked a lot better in the second half and more like how we want the team to play.

“Having not conceded so far this season going into this game, we were always wondering how we would deal with that moment.

“It shook us, but in the second half we were able to bring different players onto the pitch and tweak things out of possession, but it was great to see some fire in their bellies during that second half.”

The Swans will look to bounce back from their derby defeat when they host a Wrexham side fresh from scoring six against Pontypridd United. The game will take place at the Swansea.com Stadium, with Taylor believing it will be a great occasion for her team.

“We will look forward to Wrexham next week, it’s a great occasion and we always find it really exciting getting to play at the Swansea.com Stadium, so we will lick our wounds this week and prepare to go again Sunday," she added.
