Yzzy Taylor | We managed the game well

Swansea City Women’s head coach Yzzy Taylor was delighted with how her side avoided complacency after taking the lead in their 3–1 victory over Aberystwyth Town in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup, and was also pleased to be able to rotate the squad and give valuable minutes to players throughout the team.

The Swans went into half-time with a two-goal lead, thanks to an early strike from in-form forward Aimee Deacon, followed by a Maddy Murray header shortly before the break to double the advantage.

Taylor's side continued to threaten early in the second half, with midfielder Chloe Chivers producing one of her signature long-range strikes to find the back of the net for the Swans third goal.

Aberystwyth pulled a late goal back through Millie Gardner, but Swansea saw out the final minutes to book their place in the draw for the round of 16.

Taylor was pleased with how her side controlled the game throughout, describing it as a strong response to last week’s result against Cardiff. She added that it would leave the players in good stead ahead of a return to league action, with the Swans travelling to Wrexham next Sunday (2pm KO).

“We played in tough conditions today but I think we played well.

“Aberystwyth is always a tough place to come but I think we managed the game well and thankfully we put ourselves into the draw for the next round.

“When you go one or two goals up it is easy to get complacent and take your foot off the gas but I feel we did stuck with what we needed to do and managed to get over the line.” Taylor said.

“We spoke about being in control at half time and I was delighted for Maddy [Maddy Murray] to be able to get that goal with perfect timing just before half time. We are also really happy with the goal coming from a set play which is something we work on in training and it was also really pleasing to make full use of the squad and to get minutes in as many players as possible.

"Deacs [Aimee Deacon] has been doing really well and it's pleasing to see her hard work rewarded with goals. I am pleased with her and as a club we are looking forward to watching her further development this season.

"Chivers got our third which was a great strike which we are never surprised by because she has an abundance of quality and ability and she deserved her goal today.

“Even though the performance was there against Cardiff, you always want to respond after a loss and I think we did that so it’s really good preparation as we return to league action vs Wrexham next week.”
