Swansea City Women head coach Yzzy Taylor has told her side results will come their way if they continue to believe in themselves and produce the levels of performance they have shown over recent weeks.

The Swans suffered a second consecutive 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Sunday in the Genero Adran Premier.

However, Swansea can justifiably look back at the number of chances they created across those two contests and feel the final scoreline could, and perhaps should, have been different.

On Sunday Cardiff took the lead through a Lily Billingham chip over goalkeeper Amelia Forkings, but Swansea responded as Eilish Mitchell’s delivery caused problems for Bluebirds keeper Ceryn Chamberlain, who was unable to hold onto the ball as it found its way into the net.

However, the hosts regained the lead just minutes later when a Mackenzie Olden cross was played across goal and met by Laura Curnock, who made no mistake from close range.

Swansea continued to create opportunities in the second half, with the best chance falling to substitute Emily Richards, but she was denied by an excellent save from Chamberlain to ensure Cardiff secured all three points.

Taylor was proud of her side’s performance and believes her team are close to turning their displays into results against the top teams in the league; with the last two games highlighting the clear progression made over the course of the season.

“I think we did ourselves proud. We can take a lot of positives from the performance in terms of how we defended and the chances we created, but we just need to take that one step further and get the result when we meet them again in the (Welsh Cup) final in April," said Taylor.

“It came down to fine margins, but I can’t fault the girls when it comes to scoring goals. We’ve scored a lot this season and that’s something we’re really proud of. I’m confident it will come, and it’s important we take the positives going forward.

“The result is obviously important and that’s what everyone looks at, but we know we’re incredibly close.

"If you look at the development from our first game of the season away to Barry, or the first time we played Cardiff, the progression of the squad has been huge. It hurts at the moment, but we’ll have to regroup and look ahead to Wednesday.

“It’s a quick turnaround now with Wrexham on Wednesday, so we’ll make sure we recover well and have a clear game plan to try and finish the season as strongly as possible.”

Taylor also highlighted the impact Mitchell has had in recent games, with the defender scoring her second consecutive away goal, and says it reflects the hard work she has put in.

“We knew when we signed Eilish at the start of the season that she would bring something different to the squad," added Taylor.

"She can play at centre-back or in midfield and has the tenacity to win the ball back in any area of the pitch.

"She’s been a great addition and has been really effective in recent games, so I’m really pleased for her to get her goal. It shows the hard work she’s put in and how, as a player, you get your rewards."
