Zabret: We need to improve

12th August

Gregor Zabret accepted that Swansea City Under-23s must raise their game in order to compete in Premier League 2, Division 1 this season.

The young Swans lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool on Friday evening as they kicked off their campaign in the top flight of development football.

The Slovenian goalkeeper made a number of saves but could not keep out goals from Danny Ings and Yan Dhanda either half at Landore.

“We knew it was going to be harder in the top division,” the 21-year-old said.

“We need to be quicker on the ball because teams are going to press and be on top of us for the full 90 minutes and we need to learn how to deal with that.

“This is the level we need to be at, so we do need to improve.

“I was made to work hard with some good saves but there is plenty for me to work on and I am disappointed we could not get any points.

“We need to pick ourselves up and move forward and be ready to go again on Tuesday.”
