04/12/2013 19:45 v Newcastle United

22nd June

The Swans got back to winning ways with an emphatic 3-0 victory over in-form Newcastle United at the Liberty Stadium.

Michael Laudrup's side bounced back from their 3-0 defeat at Manchester City in the perfect way as goals from substitute Nathan Dyer, a Mathieu Debuchy own goal and a sublime effort from Jonjo Shelvey earned the hosts an inspired win.

Dyer - on for the injured Alvaro Vazquez - volleyed home from close range after Alejandro Pozuelo's cross was padded down into his path by keeper Tim Krul after 45 minutes.

The Swans then raised their game another gear in the second half, and after a perfect through ball from Pozuelo sent Shelvey in on goal, the midfielder's shot bounced off Krul and into the net off Debuchy.

And Shelvey rounded off a perfect night for Laudrup's side when he curled his effort from nearly 25 yards into the top corner with eight minutes to go.

This victory moved the Swans onto 18 points from 14 games and up to 11th place.

On a cold night at the Liberty, it was the visitors who made the first real threat on goal.

Moussa Sissoko's curling cross found Loic Remy, but his header was superbly kept out by the fingertips of a fully-stretched Vorm.

The Swans responded via a Vazquez effort, which flew along the face of goal before Chico Flores drove his 30-yard effort straight at the Dutchman.

Dyer then arrived in place of the injured Vazquez, and he would prove the difference between the sides in the first half as he thundered home a Pozuelo cross after Krul had swatted directly into the substitute's path with 45 minutes on the clock.

The Swans almost started the second half like they ended the first period as Dyer went close to find the net again.

Following neat link-up play by Pozuelo, Pablo Hernandez and de Guzman, the latter's deep cross was met by the head of the leaping Dyer, but Krul collected safely to deny him - and Swansea - a second goal.

Newcastle, though, were quick to reply with Shola Ameobi's low volley kept out by the diving Vorm after Yohan Cabaye's shot deflected off Hernandez's block tackle into the path of the striker.

The Swans countered quickly and Shelvey drilled a low shot into the side-netting.

The visitors thought they had a strong case for a penalty after Remy's shot struck the arm of Ben Davies, but referee Howard Webb rejected the appeals.

Then, as Newcastle saw another penalty appeal turned down after Remy went down under a challenge, the Swans raced on and Pozuelo's through ball sent Shelvey in on goal.

The midfielder's effort cannoned off Krul and bounced off Debuchy and into the net after 67 minutes.

Laudrup made another change shortly after as Roland Lamah replaced Hernandez.

The Swans kept pushing for another goal and Shelvey went close to adding a third but his curling strike - almost a replica of his goal against Fulham - was superbly tipped wide by the diving Krul.

But the midfielder was not to be kept out with eight minutes to go as de Guzman teed him up and the England international curled into the top corner from nearly 25 yards.

Laudrup made his final change immediately after, with Wayne Routledge coming on against his former club in place of Pozuelo.

But the remaining few minutes proved uneventful as the Swans comfortably saw out the rest of the match to claim three valuable points.
