The Swans equalled their best ever points tally in the Premier League following a 1-1 draw against Everton at the Liberty.

The visitors went ahead just before half time as Aaron Lennon finished well inside the box, while the Swans lost Bafetimbi Gomis to injury early on.

However, the home side drew level midway through the second half as Seamus Coleman was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, leaving Jonjo Shelvey to slot the resulting penalty past Tim Howard.

Neither side could forge any clear-cut chances late on, with the result meaning the Swans stay eighth in the Premier League with six matches remaining.

On another sunny afternoon in SA1, the game got off to a slow start before the home side came close to opening the scoring after 14 minutes.

A quick free-kick from Shelvey found Gomis 25 yards from goal and after the striker turned his marker he saw a fine curling effort tipped round the post by Tim Howard.

However, that proved to be the Frenchman's final involvement as he limped off with a hamstring problem and was replaced by Marvin Emnes.

The Swans were enjoying the greater possession in the first quarter, while the visitors made a first-half change of their own as Steven Pienaar replaced Leon Osman on 28 minutes.

And the hosts thought they had taken the lead on the half-hour mark as Shelvey hit a rasping volley past a stranded Tim Howard, but referee Michael Oliver had already blown his whistle for an earlier foul.

That sparked the visitors into life and they came mightily close at the other end as Coleman was afforded time and space 25 yards from goal and his low drive was superbly tipped round the post by Lukasz Fabianski.

And it was Everton who broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval as James McCarthy's cross from the left found its way to Lennon, and the winger controlled before steering the ball beyond Fabianski.

And it nearly got worse for the home side in stoppage time as Arouna Kone teed up Pienaar for a strike at goal, but his effort was straight at Fabianski.

Neither side made any changes at the break, but it was Everton who began the second period on the front foot while Emnes and Neil Taylor both picked up yellow cards for late challenges.

Emnes himself dragged a shot wide of goal on the hour mark as the hosts looked to work their way back into the contest, while Ki Sung-Yueng fired high over the crossbar after good skill inside the box.

However, the Swans did eventually haul themselves level as Seamus Coleman handled in the box while under pressure from Emnes, and Shelvey stepped up to coolly slot past Tim Howard.

Everton then made their second change of the afternoon as Kone made way for Scottish international Steven Naismith, while Nathan Dyer replaced Shelvey for the home side.

Neither side could fashion any clear chances late on as the game ended all square, meaning Swansea equalled their best-ever Premier League points tally of 47 with six games still to play.
