Swansea City made it two wins in a week as they came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans were staring at a painful defeat when Marco Matias fired the visitors in front just after the hour.

But Graham Potter’s men dug deep to fight their way back into the contest.

Bersant Celina’s third goal for the club drew the Swans level.

And barely a minute later, Wayne Routledge delivered what proved to be the winner.

The Swans started the game with purpose, and came close to breaking the deadlock as early as the 11th minute.

Mike van der Hoorn’s incisive pass opened up some space for Oli McBurnie, and he intelligently flicked the ball inside for Routledge.

The winger tried to place a shot inside the far post, but his effort rolled agonisingly wide of the target.

The wet and windy conditions were not helping either side – and were making life difficult for both keepers.

But Wednesday’s Cameron Dawson gathered Matt Grimes’s long-ranger while Erwin Mulder did likewise as Adam Reach tried his luck.

The Owls’ best chance of the first half came on 25 minutes, when Reach led a counter which ended with Lucas Joao shooting narrowly beyond the far post.

Nathan Dyer then drilled goalwards from distance but saw his effort whistle wide, then had another shot blocked with the last kick of the first period.

Grimes unleashed another drive from 30 yards early in the second half, but once more Dawson made the save.

Joao then saw a chipped effort drift harmlessly wide before Wednesday snatched the lead.

A rare error by Joe Rodon caused the problem, as substitute Matias stole possession on the edge of the Swans box before rifling his shot beyond Mulder.

The home side needed a response – and they quickly found one.

The equaliser arrived on 71 minutes, and it was well-constructed when it came.

Barrie McKay, Routledge and Connor Roberts were all involved in a sweet passing move which ended with the right-back pulling the ball back for Celina.

The substitute finished in style, stroking the ball low into the bottom corner of the net.

Barely a minute later, the Kosovan was involved again as the Swans went in front.

This time he picked up possession near halfway before chipping a ball down the inside right channel for Routledge.

The wideman had not scored a league goal in 20 months before last weekend’s win at Brentford.

But after holding off his marker and then shooting low between Dawson’s legs, he now has two in a week.

The Swans came closing to sealing the points on 84 minutes when McBurnie rose high to meet McKay’s corner but saw his effort bounce back off the bar.

In the end the near miss did not matter, as Potter’s side held on to take maximum points.
