Alan Sheehan paid tribute to Joe Allen and Kyle Naughton after the pair were given a standing ovation as they brought their Swansea City careers to an end in the draw with Oxford United.

The Swans and the U’s played out a 3-3 draw at the Swansea.com Stadium, as the home side secured an 11th place finish.

Midfielder Allen captained the Swans on his 231st and final appearance for the club, while Naughton made his 300th league appearance in Swansea colours when he was introduced in place of the Wales international in the second half.

That moment prompted a rapturous reception from the Jack Army as they bade farewell to two of the club’s finest servants and players.

And head coach Sheehan felt the reaction of the supporters summed up what special players and people Allen and Naughton are.

“We had two legends of the football club leaving,” he said.

“Sometimes some things are bigger than the result on the day, and it was important that Naughts and Joe get appreciated for the incredible people and players they are, and the careers they have had.

“The standing ovations was wonderful. They are two guys who prefer to do, rather than talk about it. They do not love the limelight, but I think it is important that they were recognised and it was a chance for the fans and the team to show their appreciation.

“It showed how loved and appreciated they are by everyone at the football club.”

Jisung Eom’s fantastic strike had given Swansea the lead, but Oxford levelled before half-time when Greg Leigh volleyed home.

Ronald arrived at the far post to find the net and put the hosts back ahead, but the visitors responded once more when Michal Helik bundled home.

Liam Cullen looked to have secured all three points with his tremendous header, but former Swan Przemyslaw Placheta struck a stoppage-time equaliser as the spoils were shared.

And Sheehan was frustrated with the nature of the goals his side had conceded.

“I liked a lot of our attacking play, but I didn’t like our defensive play,” he said.

“We have given them three goals, which is very much out of character for us and how we have played in these last few weeks.

“We have scored three really good goals, and it’s a game we want to win.

“I know there was a lot around the game, and obviously the two sides are not battling to go up or down, but we wanted it to be as real as possible.

“We had an incredible turn out by the fans, it was a party atmosphere, so it was a real shame to give them a goal in the 94th minute."
