Alan Sheehan | We are frustrated but I am proud of the players
Head coach Alan Sheehan admitted frustration was the overriding emotion after Swansea City’s draw against Watford, but was proud of the fashion in which his side dominated the final part of the game as they sought a dramatic winner.
The Swans had trailed at the interval to a brilliant free-kick from Nestory Irankunda in a contest of few clear-cut chances.
But the hosts were much the better side in the second period, with the likes of Zeidane Inoussa and debutant Marko Stamenic making an impact from the bench.
They penned the visitors back and got their reward for almost relentless pressure when Zan Vipotnik headed home Ethan Galbraith’s cross seven minutes from time.
Swansea had chances to snatch the win during nine minutes of stoppage time but it was not to be.
“Overall there is frustration,” said Sheehan.
“We knew what we were going to face, a physical side who would want to make it a battle, and they made it difficult for us.
“Their free-kick probably changes the perception of the game, and we had to pick ourselves up and change a couple of things.
“Then in the last 30 minutes we were excellent, we were relentless, we were high tempo.
“We were getting on top, there were stoppages which disrupted our rhythm but we were the ones showing positive intent.
“We spoke about needing to be cleaner in our play at half-time, we changed a couple of things, made some tactical changes and when we played our way we created chances, we got the fans involved and a well-deserved equaliser.
“We get a point. We are frustrated by a lot of different things but ultimately I am very proud of the players for the way they went to the end, which is what you want as a coach.”
