Alan Sheehan | We were excellent with and without the ball

Head coach Alan Sheehan was delighted with a fine all-round team performance as Swansea City picked up their first league win of the season against Sheffield United.

Ronald struck the only goal of the game for the hosts, who had the better of proceedings against last season’s beaten play-off finalists.

The Brazilian also had a chance earlier in the game, while Malick Yalcouye, Josh Tymon and Melker Widell were among those who also had good sights of goals for the hosts.

At the other end Lawrence Vigouroux did not have a save of note to make as the home side were aggressive and rock solid without the ball.

And Sheehan was pleased with how the team and supporters had driven each other on to victory.

“I am delighted with the win, and the atmosphere in the stadium was wonderful,” he said.

“We could have been two or three up before the water break in the first half, that stoppage broke our rhythm a bit and they accumulated some set-pieces between then and half-time.

“But in the second half I felt we were on the front foot the whole way, and the only criticism would be that it was not two, three or four and the game was more comfortable.

“Even so, we limited a team that was one game away from going to the Premier League to zero shots on target shows how good our defensive structure was.

“The way we attacked and defended as a team was very good, it felt right.

“We wanted to respond after last weekend, and we wanted to be more like ourselves and you could see a team that was so aggressive and fighting for each other.

“It’s a clean sheet, a good win and something to build on.”
