Alan Sheehan | That win was important for everyone connected to Swansea City
Caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan was pleased for players, staff and fans alike after Swansea City ended a difficult week on a positive note with a comprehensive 3-0 win over play-off hopefuls Blackburn Rovers at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Goals from Žan Vipotnik, Myles Peart-Harris and Liam Cullen secured a first home win of 2025 for the Swans, with Sheehan at the helm following the departure of Luke Williams.
Vipotnik bundled in the opener, before Peart-Harris produced a fine solo run and finish on the stroke of half-time to double the lead.
And Cullen fired home his 11th goal of the season from a Peart-Harris pull-back in the second half, while the hosts also secured a clean sheet.
It matched Swansea’s biggest win of the season to date, and was their first against a side in the play-off places in just over a year.
And Sheehan felt the victory was an important moment for everyone connected with Swansea City.
“I am really happy for them and for the fans, we got everything we wanted from the performance today,” he said.
“I really wanted the players and the fans to have that moment at the end of the game, and everyone who works for the football club, because it has been a very difficult week and they all deserve it.
“When you have moments like that, you want to make the most of them, but also make sure we are ready to try and do it again.
“I thought the players carried out the gameplan really well, and all the credit goes to them.”
One of the most notable aspects of Swansea’s performance was their relentless harrying work out of possession, and they created a number of opportunities by attacking quickly in transition when they won the ball back.
And Sheehan praised the players for the focus they had shown to produce a positive showing.
“To a man, they were together, we played with intensity at the right moments and we were resilient,” he added.
“Blackburn are a good team, and I have seen games where they have bullied teams and, as a football club, we stood up to the challenge.
“We have come away with three points that were more than deserved.
“It has been a really difficult week, but ultimately we had a job to do, and the players were really focused in training.
“We broke play up really well, and hit the areas we wanted to and, like I say, credit goes to the players.”
