Goalkeeper Andy Fisher paid tribute to the work of Martyn Margetson and the analysis staff after making the crucial penalty shootout save to help Swansea City see off Plymouth Argyle in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The Swans were flawless from the spot as Zan Vipotnik, Ethan Galbraith, Liam Cullen, Ben Cabango and Melker Widell all found the target.

That meant Fisher’s stop from former Swan Matthew Sorinola settled the tie as the hosts prevailed 5-3 in the shootout, with the contest having ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Fisher spent the second half of last season on loan with St Johnstone in Scotland having had the first part of the season disrupted by injury.

His start against Crawley in round one was his first for the Swans in 18 months, but he preferred to focus on the preparation put in under head of goalkeeping Margetson rather than personally take the credit for his crucial stop.

“We are delighted to go through, it ended up being a scrappy game and we have to find ways to kill the game off as we were 1-0 up and could have made it easier for ourselves,” he said.

“I was really pleased to contribute. I want to give credit to Marge and the analysis team for going through and doing the research on where to go.

“To make those saves is what we train for, so it shows what we work hard on.

“The lads were great from the spot too, it shows all that practice they do after training when I’m stood in goal counts for something! So credit to all of them.

“I’ve had a frustrating time over the last couple of years, I feel like I had a good loan spell and I hope I can get some more game time under my belt.”
