Chelsea end U18s’ unbeaten run

25th September

Swansea City Under-18s saw their unbeaten run in Premier League South come to an end with a 5-0 defeat against league leaders Chelsea.

Swansea started the on the front foot but were unable to capitalise as winger Mason Jones-Thomas saw his cross spilled by Chelsea’s keeper Nicholas Tie.

The visitors grew into the first half and looked dangerous in front of goal as Alex Lang held Daishwan Redan’s shot.

The Blues broke the deadlock in the 25th minute as Billy Gilmour fired home from 25 yards.

Chelsea doubled their lead just before half-time from the penalty spot with Martelle Taylor-Crossdale beating Lang from 12 yards.

The visitors controlled large spells of the second half and added to their lead with goals from Redan and substitute George McEachran.

Swansea strived to get something from the game as Jones-Thomas and Matthew Roberts both saw efforts saved late on before Redan scored his second of the game in the closing minutes to make it 5-0.

The young Swans' first defeat of the season sees them drop to sixth in Premier League South while Chelsea maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of the league.
