Chris Llewellyn Swansea City Under-18s FA Youth Cup

Under-18s coach Chris Llewellyn expressed his pride at seeing the young Swans progress to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup following Friday's win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The scholars battled difficult pitch conditions at a cold Stebonheath Park to beat the category two side 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from winger Daniel James.

The result means the young side progress to the next round of the competition to face Arsenal.

And Llewellyn was understandably delighted with the commitment and desire of the squad in recent weeks.

"We are very pleased with the win. As a team we are over the moon," he said. "It was a very difficult game in some tough conditions.

"Sheffield Wednesday really gave us a game - they were direct and their attack was at times a real threat.

"It was a different way of playing today, but we knew we would not be able to stick to the usual game plan of expansive football we are used to.

"We had to stand up to the test and win ugly but I am pleased with the commitment of the players. 

The result also means the Under-18s stretch their winning run to four games in league and cup action.

Llewellyn believes the run of results is down to the young players starting to gel and adapt to life in category one football.

"The lads are now getting everything they deserve," he continued. "We had some tough results at the start of the season despite us working hard.

"We are starting to adapt now to this level of football and have found some confidence.

"The performances have been improving and we knew as a team it was only a matter of time before we got results.

"The last four results in the league and cup have been outstanding. Three of our wins have been with clean sheets and we are creating and scoring good goals.

"We will refocus ourselves back on the league now ahead of Aston Villa next weekend before looking forward to facing Arsenal in the next round of the competition come the New Year."
