Swansea City Women’s head coach Yzzy Taylor was delighted with her side’s clinical finishing and defensive solidity in their 4-0 opening-day win at Barry Town United in the Genero Adran Premier.

The Swans flew out of the blocks at Jenner Park, with Chloe Chivers scoring inside two minutes before adding another after the break, while Stacey John and Emily Richards also struck to ensure the points returned to SA1.

The visitors controlled much of the game and created plenty of first-half chances, before showing ruthlessness after the break with three goals in 20 minutes.

Head coach Taylor felt her side showed promising signs of the fundamentals they will look to build on this season.

“I’m over the moon with the result, I think we demonstrated what we want to do this year as a team and for me it was really impressive how we came away with that clean sheet,” she said.

“We defended the box really well and took our chances in the final third really well; to come away with four goals is a very good return.

“The first goal was a superb effort and it’s something we know that Chloe has in her locker.

“We continued to create a lot of chances and spoke about how we had to go out and be more clinical in the second half.

“When we get into these areas, it’s important we understand what the support looks like behind the ball as well, so it was really pleasing to come back and score three goals in the second half.”

Taylor also highlighted the impact from her bench over the 90 minutes, and was also pleased at the different types of goals the Swans scored.

“We used our whole squad, everyone brought something to the game and for me they were all different types of goals, Stacey’s one was a superb finish but we have actually switched the play and created some good build-up prior to the goal,” added Taylor.

“Emily Richards’ goal was a prime example of us making sure we had bodies in the right places and putting our bodies on the line to make sure we get the ball in the back of the net.

“We will look to build on the performance and what we can improve on in and out of possession, but Pontypridd will be a different challenge and we will look forward to the game and having a positive week in training.”
