Steve Cooper was fulsome in his praise for Jay Fulton following the midfielder’s outstanding display against Stoke City.

The Scot opened the scoring for the Swans with a superb finish with the outside of his right foot on the half-hour mark.

But his display was about far more than just the goal, as Fulton regularly found pockets of space in which to trouble Stoke and keep the hosts on the front foot, as well as getting through a considerable amount of defensive work.

It was just his second Championship start of the season, and Cooper was delighted with the performance of the former Hamilton man.

“Jay was excellent,” said Cooper.

“Okay he got the goal, and he will get headlines for that, but his overall performance showed the player he is.

“He can go a little bit under the radar, but he is a brilliant professional, a good team-mate and a good player.

“He does a lot of things that can go unnoticed, but they don’t go unnoticed by myself and the coaching staff.

“I thought he was good at the weekend, and he has done even better tonight.

“He has got a goal, and it is an excellent finish. It looked a little ungainly with how it went in, and I don't think everyone realised it had gone in initially.

“But I’ve looked at it back and it was a brilliant finish.”
