On this day in 1974, the Swans claimed their third win in four games following a narrow 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Vetch Field.

Following a slow start to the season that had brought just one win from their opening nine games, Harry Gregg’s men were starting to turn the corner in division four.

Wins against Lincoln City and Hartlepool United had lifted spirits in south Wales, but the Swans arrived at their showdown against Crewe off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Mansfield Town.

Meanwhile, the visitors were looking to get back on track having suffered back-to-back losses after winning five and drawing three of their opening nine matches.

However, Geoff Thomas scored his fifth goal of the season before Robbie James found the net for the second game running to give the Swans the points.

Swans: Derek Bellotti, Wyndham Evans, Micky Evans, Dave Bruton, David Tones, Paul Bevan, Dave Roberts, Robbie James, Geoff Thomas, Pat Lally, Alan Curtis.

The Swans also earned a respectable 1-1 draw with the in-form Rochdale in 2002.

Brian Flynn had taken over in September following a poor start to the campaign that had brought just one win from 11 games.

By contrast, Rochdale were unbeaten in four matches ahead of their trip to the Vetch.

Nevertheless, James Thomas gave the Swans a first-half lead while their opponents had Clive Platt sent off.

The visitors responded after the break and equalised with 19 minutes remaining through Paul Connor - who would join the Swans in 2004 - but the hosts held on for a share of the spoils.

Swans: Roger Freestone, Terry Evans, Kristian O’Leary, Jason Smith, Mike Howard, Andrew Mumford, Lee Jenkins, Damian Lacey (David Moss, 68), Gareth Phillips (Jonathan Keaveny, 80), James Thomas, Steve Watkin.
