On this day: Six of the best for Swans

The Swans sealed a thrilling 6-4 victory at Valley Parade on this day in 1991 courtesy of a John Williams hat-trick and goals from Joey Beauchamp, Andy Legg and Jimmy Gilligan.

The result came as a surprise given that Frank Burrows’ side had only enjoyed three wins from the first 15 matches of the season and were edging closer to the bottom of the table.

But he win at Bradford, coupled with the previous weekend’s victory over Cardiff City in the FA Cup, helped to boost morale around the Vetch.

The Swans had failed to score in any of their away matches until they went to Yorkshire, so their six-goal haul was all the more remarkable.

Hat-trick hero Williams would go on to be the Swans’ top scorer in the 1991-92 season with 11 goals.

The Swans finished 19th in the Third Division table at the end of the campaign on 56 points, just five points ahead of the relegation zone. Bradford finished three places higher on 58 points.
