A goal in each half helped Swansea City to a hard-fought 2-0 win over Blackpool on this day in 1986.

Under the guidance of caretaker manager Tommy Hutchinson, the Swans enjoyed an upturn in form in Division Three with a draw against Bournemouth and victory against Walsall going into this match.

Promotion-chasing Blackpool would be a tough test at the Vetch, but midfielder Rodger Gibbins fired Swansea into the lead on eight minutes.

The Swans sealed the win from the penalty spot after Steve Hetzke handled in the box, with Chris Harrison on target from 12 yards.

But victory over Blackpool did not save the Swans from relegation, as they dropped into Division Four at the end of the season.
