On this day: Swans seal derby cup win

Goals from Mark Harris and Jimmy Gilligan saw the Swans seal a 2-1 win over Cardiff City in the first round of the FA Cup on this day in 1991.

Defender Harris, who signed from Crystal Palace in September 1989, netted the Swans’ first goal before former Cardiff striker Gilligan scored the second for Frank Burrows’ Swans.

Welsh international frontman Nathan Blake netted for Cardiff.

At the end of the 1991-92 season, the Swans finished in 19th position in the Third Division, five points ahead of the relegation zone.

The Swans were knocked out of the FA Cup in the second round following a 2-1 defeat to Exeter City at the Vetch.
