On this day: Swans star in Wales' Euro bow

Chris Coleman’s side made a dream start at Euro 2016 as Hal Robson-Kanu’s late strike snatched all three points after Ondrej Duda had cancelled out Gareth Bale’s earlier free-kick.

The Swans were represented by two players at Stade de Bordeaux – Neil Taylor and captain Ashley Williams.

Former Swans Ben Davies and Joe Allen also played the full 90 minutes of their country’s opening match in Group B, while Jazz Richards replaced Aaron Ramsey for the closing stages of Wales’ first match at a major tournament finals since the 1958 World Cup.

On the same day 58 years earlier, Swans striker Ivor Allchurch was on target in the Dragons’ 1-1 draw with Mexico in their second match of the finals.

Allchurch’s club team-mate Mel Charles also played the full 90 minutes, as did former Swans Terry Medwin and Cliff Jones and future signing Colin Webster.

Also on this day in 2010, club favourite Leon Britton departed the Swans for Sheffield United after over 300 appearances in SA1.

However, Britton returned just seven months later and surpassed 500 games in South Wales before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2017-18 season.
