On This Day: Swans stun Blades

Swansea City celebrated a fine FA Cup victory this weekend, and 12 years ago today they were racking up a famous knock-out win by the same 3-0 scoreline.

Kenny Jackett’s Swans were drawn away at Premier League Sheffield United in the third round, but few gave them much hope of an upset as injuries and suspensions left nine players unavailable.

However, the League One side overcame those issues to deliver a fantastic performance and dump Neil Warnock’s side out of the competition.

After a goalless first half, Tom Butler scored two goals in six minutes to put the visitors in control.

The Irishman then won a penalty, which Leon Britton converted to put the result beyond doubt and seal the win.
