Swansea City hammered Peterborough 4-1 at Vetch Field in a Third Division clash on this day in 1978.

As well as witnessing a Swans win, fans were also treated to the sight of European, British and Commonwealth boxing champion John Conteh, who was introduced to the crowd before the game.

Striker Alan Waddle gave the Swans the lead on 24 minutes before Gary Sargent equalised for the visitors on the half-hour mark.

But it took the Swans less than 60 seconds to retake the lead as Waddle scored his second of the game.

Goals from player-manager John Toshack and Jeremy Charles secured a comfortable win for the home side, who went on to achieve their second promotion in as many seasons.
