First-half goals from Lee Trundle, Izzy Iriekpen and Leon Britton saw the Swans claim a 3-1 victory over Newport at Spytty Park in the first round of the FA Cup on this day in 2006.

Trundle opened the scoring for Kenny Jackett's League One team inside seven minutes before Iriekpen doubled the Swans’ lead on the half-hour.

Britton’s goal late in the first half all but secured the win for the visitors in a game that was marred by a head injury to fourth official Alan Sheffield.

He was struck with a coin from the crowd shortly after Newport manager Peter Beadle had been sent to the stands.

Ian Hillier pulled a goal back for the home side early in the second half, but the Swans held on for victory.
