On This Day: Tatey saves the day

Alan Tate memorably donned the gloves on this day in 2008 – and helped Swansea City to a clean sheet.

The Swans drew 0-0 with Queens Park Rangers in a Championship clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Tate was in goal for more than two-thirds of the match after a challenge by QPR captain Martin Rowlands left Swans goalkeeper Dorus de Vries with a broken jaw.

With no goalkeeper on the bench, boss Roberto Martinez was forced to deploy Tate between the sticks.

Swans legend Tate was hardly troubled, however, as Ferrie Bodde, Darren Pratley and Jordi Gomez all threatened at the other end of the pitch.

The draw ensured the Swans remained unbeaten at the Liberty Stadium that season.

The next time they played, meanwhile, Martinez included two keepers in his squad – on-loan duo Artur Krysiak and Dimi Konstantopoulos.
