On this day: Tommy's on target

On this day in 1985, Tommy Hutchison struck his first Swansea City goal as John Bond's side recorded their first win of the Division Three campaign.

The midfielder, who had arrived from Burnley that summer, proved the difference in a tight game in front of just over 3,600 at the Vetch.

The season wouldn't improve for the Swans, though, as they had to endure significantly difficult times.

After avoiding relegation by a point in the previous campaign, there was no halting their slide down the divisions as they finished bottom.

In December, the Swans were wound by court order before local businessman Doug Sharpe took over the running of the club.

Hutchison also stepped up to manager following John Bond's departure, and later became the oldest player (aged 43 years and five months) to feature for the Swans when he took to the field against Southend United on March 12, 1991.
