A first-half header from skipper Ashley Williams saw Swansea City climb out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 1-0 victory over Watford at the Liberty on this day in 2016.

With new head coach Francesco Guidolin watching from the stands, Williams’ headed effort after a fine Ki Sung-Yueng cross in the 27th minute proved the difference.

Watford had chances to equalise through Miguel Britos and Jose Manuel Jurado, but solid defending from the hosts kept them at bay.

Bafetimbi Gomis had an opportunity to double the Swans’ advantage late on but his effort hit the post.

Williams’ header provided the Swans with only their second victory in 12 matches.

The Swans finished in 12th position at the end of the 2015-16 season on 47 points.
