The Swans enjoyed a convincing 3-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra on this day in 1977.

Under the guidance of Harry Griffiths, the Swans enjoyed a fine season in Division Four and looked for a long time as though they were set for promotion.

Their home record in 1976-77 was formidable, and Crewe were one of a number of sides who were beaten at Vetch Field.

Two rising stars were on the scoresheet against the Alex in the shape of Robbie James and Jeremy Charles, with summer signing Les Chappell adding a third goal.

The Swans missed out on promotion on the final day of the season, but their impressive campaign was a sign of things to come, for their remarkable rise to the top flight was just around the corner.
