FAW Youth Cup Preview: Cardiff v Swans

The Under-19s go in search of a sixth straight FAW Youth Cup crown when they face Cardiff City on Thursday (7pm).

The young Swans head to the Cardiff City Stadium on the back of a positive season in Development League Two South - including a run to the fifth round of this year's FA Youth Cup.

Involvement in that competition was ended by eventual winners Chelsea, but Thursday's clash represents the chance for the squad to end the campaign with silverware of their own.

The Swans have won the FAW Youth Cup for the past five seasons - including a 6-1 victory over The New Saints in last year's final.

Both Swans and Cardiff have won the trophy on eight occasions each, with the Bluebirds last lifting the title in 2006 after a 5-2 win over Aberystwyth.

The Swans have enjoyed a dominant route to the final, scoring 26 goals in just four games and conceding just once.

A 14-0 win over Bow Street started the journey, before victories over Haverfordwest (3-1), Airbus (2-0) and Bala Town (7-0).

And coach Cameron Toshack insists the staff and players are all relishing the chance to end the season on a high.

"Everyone is excited, fit and ready for the final," he said. "We have had a very good season, the lads have trained well this week and the fact that there is silverware on offer adds extra spice.

"When you are the holders of any trophy you want to defend it, and that is our motivation.

"A lot of our squad have played Under-21s football at different points during the year and that has been great for their development and a fantastic experience for those involved.

"All of the staff deserve credit for the way they have moulded them and the progress we have made during the campaign.

"There is now an opportunity to win a trophy and it is one we are all very much looking forward to."
