The future's bright, says King

Swans starlet Adam King believes the future looks bright for Swansea City after the Academy beat The New Saints 6-1 to win the FAW Youth Cup for a fifth successive year.

In a seven-goal thriller at the Liberty, the young Swans secured an emphatic victory, courtesy of a brace from Ryan Hedges, plus goals from King, Connor Roberts, Josh Sheehan and Kyle Copp.

The Swans dominated throughout, opening the scoring when Hedges hit home in the 14th minute before a quick-fire double by King and Hedges saw the Swans enter the break three goals to the good.

Connor Roberts extended Cameron Toshack's side's advantage shortly before the hour-mark, only for Ryan Kershaw to claw one back for TNS two minutes later.

But the Swans' four-goal advantage was quickly restored when Sheehan struck from range before Copp rounded off the win with ten minutes left on the clock.

And goalscorer King feels such a resounding win represents the bright future in store for the Swans.

"It's brilliant to win my first trophy," said the delighted 18-year-old. "Like I said when I arrived here, it's great to be a part of, and it's getting better and better every week.

"I'm playing with a great bunch of boys here, on and off the pitch, which helps me a lot. It's a really tight knit group.

"We all work hard for each other, and I think you could see that tonight in how we scored six goals. 

"I believe the future is bright for Swansea.

"There are talented players everywhere you look, throughout every position on the pitch. 

"Even the boys coming off the bench are making a big impact. We are all keen to push each other on.

"It was an all-round great performance. From defending to attacking, it was brilliant - you could see that we carry what we do in training out onto the pitch.

"I'm also very happy to grab my first goal at the Liberty. Just walking out onto the pitch was a great feeling, so to score a goal was really special."
