Harry Darling celebrates goal against Stoke City

Harry Darling was glad to make a set-piece chance pay for Swansea City, but says he and his teammates know their performance against Stoke City was not good enough despite picking up a point at the bet365 Stadium.

Defender Darling headed in an 89th-minute equaliser in the Potteries, after conceding a penalty for a foul on Ryan Mmaee 20 minutes earlier, which Daniel Johnson converted for the hosts.

The goal marked Darling’s second of the season, but he and caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan feel he could have had more in recent games.

And, while the centre-back was happy to have made up for conceding the spot-kick, he acknowledged the display fell short of the standards the squad set for themselves.

“It’s about time I scored, I’ve had a lot of chances and Sheezy keeps reminding me of that,” said Darling.

“But to give away the penalty, and then score, at least I’ve redeemed myself a bit.

“As a group, we know it was nowhere near good enough but to get four points from the last two games is good and we need to look ahead to Saturday against Middlesbrough now.

“Sheezy (caretaker manager Alan Sheehan) has been brilliant with us and we’ve stuck together and got a good couple of results.

“We are back at home on Saturday. It’s always nice to play in front of our fans and they’re brilliant.

"We’ll need them in these next two games, they’re tough games but we’re looking forward to them and hopefully we can perform well.”
