Iestyn Jones | New contract a big moment after years of hard work
Iestyn Jones is grateful to have seen years of hard work lead to him having the chance to extend his stay at Swansea City for a further two years.
The 18-year-old has been at Swansea City since under-nine level and has since progressed through the ranks; signing his scholarship prior to the 2023-24 season.
His new deal runs until June 2028, which will take the youngster to over a decade at the club.
Jones signed his first professional contract in the October 2024 having impressed playing in a higher age-group for most of the prior campaign. Eighteen months on he has been rewarded with an extension, and Jones is delighted.
"I'm really happy to have been offered another two years at the club, it's been a lot of hard work and I'm so glad to have this contract," said Jones.
"It feels more special that I get to extend my stay at the club I've been at since under-nine level.
"It's what you always dream of as a kid, whether you're in an academy or not. Getting my professional contract last year was amazing, but now this is even better."
Jones has been a pivotal figure in defence for the under-21s this season, and has been a mainstay in first-team training at Fairwood under Vitor Matos.
The Wales youth international is hoping to continue his positive campaign, and he's eager for more senior involvement.
"It's been a good season for me, I've played nearly every game for the under-21s and I've had no injury set-backs, it's been really positive so far," he added.
"I'm constantly playing, and in international breaks I'm with Wales, it just means I'm being very consistent and that's the best thing.
"Being up with the first team training this season has been great for my learning, it's definitely helped me with my game and I just want to be in and around that environment as much as possible.
"A big thank you to the staff and coaches in the club who have helped me get to this point, especially Wrighty [Anthony Wright], he's been great in supporting me at this club for many years.
"The next two years, I want to gain as much learning and experience as possible, with the number one aim of making my first-team debut for this club."
