Leon Britton admitted it was tough to say goodbye after making his final appearance for Swansea City.

The 35-year-old is hanging up his boots at the end of one of the greatest Swans careers of all.

Britton made his 537th and final appearance from the bench as the Swans were beaten 2-1 by Stoke in their final Premier League match of the season.

“It was an emotional send-off for me,” Britton said.

“Walking round the pitch at the end and saying the goodbyes was an experience I will not forget.

“The club has been such a big part of my life the last 16 years and saying goodbye to fans was tough.

“The fans have always been incredible. From day one until today, the reception I have got from them has been special and will live long in the memory.

“Today was a chance for me to say thank you to them.

“I retire today but the memories will always stay with me. The memories I take are incredible. It has been a pleasure to play for the club.”
