Jamal Lowe says Swansea City believe they can achieve something special this year, but knows they must keep taking care of their own business to maintain their strong position.

The Swans beat Barnsley 2-0 at Oakwell on Saturday as goals from Ben Cabango and Lowe moved them to within four points of leaders Norwich.

Steve Cooper’s side are also four points clear of third-placed Bournemouth and the play-off places just past the halfway point of a gruelling season.

There is a lot of football to be played before anyone can start thinking of what could be, and striker Lowe knows that keeping a tight focus on Swansea’s own results and performances will be key.

“It’s just about keeping on it. Whatever anyone else does, we have to win our games,” he said.

“We have to do what we need to do. We believe we can achieve something this season.

“Norwich are top at the minute and we are not too far behind them, but we have to win our games, it’s as simple as that.

“You keep going, you keep battling and you keep getting the results and we will see where that takes us.”

Lowe took his tally to nine for the season – with seven of those coming in his last seven appearances – as he took full advantage of a defensive slip to race in on goal and calmly finish his second-half strike in Yorkshire.

And the former Wigan man revealed the lengths he is going to in an effort to keep improving.

“As long as I am playing well, I am happy. It’s down to a lot of work on the training ground, lots of video work, extra shooting and fitness work,” he said.

“The fitness aspect is particularly important as you miss chances when you are tired, so being as fit as you can be is so important when the opportunities come.”
