Jess Williams | Our objective is to win silverware
Swansea City Women captain Jess Williams says the side are determined to add silverware this season following their 6-0 victory over Llandudno FC in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.
The Swans booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to goals from Williams, Maisie Miller, a brace from Taite Trivett, Maddy Murray and an own goal, reaching the last four of the competition for the first time since 2024.
The victory extended the Swans’ winning run to four matches, ahead of their final phase one fixture against Briton Ferry on Wednesday evening, before beginning Phase Two against Wrexham at Llandarcy, four days later.
Williams opened the scoring in the emphatic win and was pleased with the ruthlessness shown by the side after the break where the team scored four goals in just 30 minutes, while also highlighting the squad’s ambition to lift the Welsh Cup - a feat Swansea City Women have not achieved since 2018.
"We’re happy that we achieved what we set out to do, which was reach the semi-finals," she said.
"We didn’t come out as strongly as we would have liked in the first half, but in the second half we showed what we’re capable of and were rewarded with some well-taken goals.
“I think we dominated the game overall, but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net early on. Even though we went in 2-0 up, we felt we could do better. At half-time, the focus was on being more ruthless, scoring goals and maintaining a clean sheet, so to do that while scoring six goals is something we’re really pleased with." She said.
“It was nice to get my first goal of the season. I always want to help the team in any way I can, but the most important thing was winning the game, so I’m glad I was able to contribute.
“We set targets at the start of the season and one of those is to win silverware. We’re now into the last four and we know it will be difficult, but our aim is to go on and win the competition.
“We’ve been on a good run over the last couple of months. It will be a physically tough week with three games, but our focus now turns to Briton Ferry in midweek in our final Phase One fixture, and hopefully we can keep building momentum heading into Phase Two on Sunday.”
