Joe Rodon | Clean sheet gives us plenty to build on

Joe Rodon believes Swansea City can take plenty of confidence from their solid defensive display at Derby, as Steve Cooper’s side recorded their first clean sheet of the season.

The game ended goalless with the Swans limiting their hosts to just three shots on target in the form of a Martyn Waghorn penalty and quickfire efforts from Florian Jozefzoon and Scott Malone.

And centre-half Rodon feels the clean sheet – and the manner in which Swansea City dealt with a number of set-pieces – provides positives to build on.

“It gives us something to build on. Obviously, if we could, we’d keep a clean sheet every game, that’s what we dream about as defenders,” he said.

“Pride Park is a tough place to come and Derby are a good team, so it was great to come away with a clean sheet.

“Last season, we weren’t the best in that aspect of the game.

“We were costing ourselves with the way we were defending set-pieces. As you saw, the boys really dug in and dealt with every corner and free-kick.

“We’re improving and, hopefully, we can keep doing that this season.

“The set-pieces we were going up against today is only going to give us confidence going into the next game.

“If we continue to do that all season, I’m sure we will be a good team.”
